{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The kookaburra is a well-known symbol of Australia and is easily recognized by its distinctive call that sounds like laughter. This native bird is closely tied to the Australian landscape and has been featured in traditional songs, literature, and popular media over many years. Its cultural importance has made it a natural choice for coin designs from The Perth Mint. Today, 2026 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
All 2026 1 Kilo Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins available from BGASC are struck in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. As the largest coin in the Kookaburra silver series, the 1 kilo option appeals to those seeking a substantial silver holding. The unlimited mintage for 2026 means The Perth Mint will continue producing these coins throughout the year to meet ongoing interest.
Obverse
The obverse side of the 2026 Australian Silver Kookaburra features a portrait of King Charles III. This left-facing design by Dan Thorne shows the king without a crown and represents the first official effigy of His Majesty to appear on Australian coins.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026 1 Kilo Silver Kookaburra Coin, a single kookaburra is shown gliding above a coastal scene. The design reflects the birds connection to Australias natural environment. Kookaburras are also known for their communal calling behavior, which is most often heard at dawn and dusk as family groups come together.
History
Kookaburras are highly adaptable birds that inhabit many regions across Australia. They are commonly found in woodlands and forested areas but have also adjusted well to suburban and urban settings. These birds prefer environments with tall trees that offer nesting hollows and clear views of the ground below. Whether perched in a backyard tree or along a fence line, kookaburras patiently wait for opportunities to hunt.
