{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The Czech Mint introduced its bullion coin lineup in 2017 with the Silver Czech Lion, a series that quickly found interest among collectors for its national themes and limited mintages. Produced by the Czech Mint and issued by Niue as legal tender, each release offers a different take on the Czech lion on the reverse. This long-standing symbol represents Czech history and culture. Right now, 2026 1 oz Niue Czech Lion Gold Coins are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
All 2026 1 oz Niue Czech Lion Gold Coins available here come individually packaged in protective flips and are in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This marks the 10th year of the series and includes a new reverse design highlighting the Czech Lion and Crown of St. Wenceslas.
Obverse
On the obverse of the 2026 Niue Czech Lion Gold Coin, there is a portrait of King Charles III. Niue includes the British monarch on its coinage as part of the Commonwealth. This left-facing portrait was designed by Jody Clark, who also created the last circulating portrait of Queen Elizabeth II for British coins.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2026 1 oz Czech Lion Gold Coin features the Czech lion with its forked tail next to the Crown of St. Wenceslas. The crown was made in 1346 by Charles IV for his coronation and was dedicated to St. Wenceslas. It has since been used as the official crown for Bohemian rulers.
History
The Czech lion dates back to the 12th century, when it first appeared in heraldry granted by Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa to King Vladislaus II. Initially shown with one tail, the lion symbolized courage and strength. A second tail was later added, often associated with King Pemysl Otakar I and his role in military alliances. By 1253, the two-tailed lion became the official coat of arms of Bohemia and remains a symbol tied to Czech heritage.
