Originally introduced in 1986 as the Australian Gold Nugget, the Perth Mints Kangaroo Series has remained a consistent option for those interested in precious metals. In 1990, the series adopted the kangaroo as its main design feature, with new artwork released each year. The 2026 coin marks the 40th anniversary of the program and includes a special privy mark to recognize this milestone. Right now, 2026 1 oz Proof Colorized Australian Silver Kangaroo Coins are available online at BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Coin arrives in a classic Perth Mint display with a themed outer shipper!
  • 40th-anniversary Proof Silver Kangaroo!
  • Colorized reverse visuals!
  • High-relief strike!
  • Limited mintage of only 5,000 coins!
  • Contains 1 troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • Issued a face value of $1 (AUD) by Australia.
  • Obverse depicts King Charles III.
  • Reverse captures kangaroos leaping through a lush setting.

These 2026 1 oz Proof Colorized Australian Silver Kangaroo Coins are housed in Perth Mint display cases with a black base and clear acrylic lid. Each coin comes with a themed shipper and a Certificate of Authenticity. The high-relief strike gives added depth to the designs, while the reverse includes detailed colorization.

Obverse

On the obverse of the 2026 1 oz Proof Colorized Silver Kangaroo Coin, you will see a left-profile image of King Charles III without a crown. The design comes from artist Dan Thorne and marks the first official portrait of the King on Australian currency.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2026 Proof Colorized Australian Silver Kangaroo displays two kangaroos moving across a shallow water area. Their movement creates small ripples, showing the natural flow of their motion. The design focuses on the way kangaroos travel, using their strong legs to move efficiently.

History

Kangaroos live across a wide range of regions in Australia. Red Kangaroos are common in dry, open inland areas. Eastern Grey Kangaroos can be found along the eastern parts of the country, while Western Grey Kangaroos occupy areas from Western Australia to Victoria. These grey species often stay in areas with thicker vegetation. Antilopine Kangaroos are found in northern Australia, where they live in tropical woodland environments.
