{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The koala is one of Australias most iconic native animals and has become a lasting symbol of the countrys wildlife. Known for its calm nature and connection to eucalyptus forests, the koala is often used to promote environmental awareness and conservation initiatives. In 2026, the Royal Australian Mint expands its RAM Koala Series with the third design release. Right now, 2026 1 oz Proof Royal Australian Mint Silver Koala Coins are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2026 1 oz Proof Royal Australian Mint Silver Koala Coin is securely enclosed in a plastic capsule and housed in a presentation box. The box is shipped inside a themed outer package and includes a Certificate of Authenticity from the Royal Australian Mint. The proof strike provides crisp frosted designs contrasted by reflective mirrored fields.
Obverse
The obverse design of the 2026 Proof Royal Australian Mint Silver Koala Coin features a left-profile image of King Charles III. Designed by Dan Thorne, this effigy marks one of the earliest appearances of His Majesty on Australian coins. The portrait shows the king without a crown, aligning with the modern style used for early issues of his reign.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026 1 oz Proof RAM Silver Koala Coin, the design illustrates a group of koalas resting among the branches of a gum tree. Although they are often portrayed as affectionate, koalas are mostly solitary animals. Mothers care for their joeys alone, with young koalas spending several months in the pouch before transitioning to riding on their mothers back and learning to navigate the trees while adjusting to a eucalyptus-based diet.
History
Koalas are native to eucalyptus forests and woodland regions found along Australias eastern and southeastern coastline. Their habitat spans from Queensland down through New South Wales and Victoria, with select populations extending into South Australia. These marsupials rely on specific eucalyptus varieties for nutrition and shelter, making stable forest conditions essential to their survival.
