{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The kookaburra is an iconic Australian bird that plays an important role in the countrys culture and wildlife. Known for its loud, laughing call, the bird is often associated with the Australian bush and has been referenced in entertainment, literature, and traditional childrens songs. The kookaburra also has a long-running presence in The Perth Mints silver coin programs. Right now, 2026 10 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins are available from BGASC.
Highlights:
Each 2026 10 oz Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin available from BGASC is produced in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. These larger-format coins are packaged individually in protective capsules to help safeguard their finish. With no set mintage limit, The Perth Mint will continue striking these coins throughout the 2026 calendar year to meet market demand.
Obverse
The obverse of the 2026 Australian Silver Kookaburra Coin features a left-profile image of King Charles III. Created by designer Dan Thorne, this uncrowned portrait represents the first official effigy of the King to appear on Australian coins. The design marks a new era while maintaining traditional minting standards.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 2026 10 oz Silver Kookaburra Coin is a single kookaburra shown in flight above a coastal setting. Kookaburras are known for gathering in family groups to perform communal calling at dawn and dusk. This behavior is part of their social structure and is reflected in the energetic design of the coin.
History
Australia is home to two different kookaburra species, each with its own traits. The laughing kookaburra is the larger and more familiar bird, commonly found along Australias eastern coastline and inland regions. The blue-winged kookaburra is found primarily in northern Australia and parts of New Guinea and is recognized by its blue wing feathers and unique call. Both birds share strong builds, powerful beaks, and a diet that includes insects, small reptiles, and mammals.
