Honey bees and flowering plants have grown together for millions of years, forming a relationship that supports many ecosystems across the globe. The western honey bee, Apis mellifera, began in Africa and gradually spread across Europe and Asia. European settlers later introduced the species to the Americas in the 17th century. Collectors can now enjoy a tribute to this important pollinator with the 2026 5 oz Black Proof Niue Silver Honey Bee Coins, offered at BGASC.

Highlights:

  • Arrives in a capsule with a wooden box and a Certificate of Authenticity!
  • Eye-catching black proof finish!
  • Features selective 24-karat gold plating!
  • Limited mintage of only 350 coins!
  • Contains 5 troy oz of .999 pure silver.
  • Issued a face value of $10 (NZD) by Niue.
  • King Charles III on the obverse.
  • Honey bees in a hive on the reverse.

Each 2026 5 oz Black Proof Niue Silver Honey Bee Coin is presented in a wooden display box and placed inside a protective capsule. Every coin comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. The black proof finish results in dark, frosted details that contrast with bright, mirrored fields. On the reverse, selective 24-karat gold adds extra visual interest to the design.

Obverse

On the obverse of 2026 Black Proof Niue Silver Honey Bee Coins, you will find King Charles III. The portrait shows him in left-profile relief and without a crown. Jody Clark designed this effigy and also created the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

Reverse

The reverse of 2026 5 oz Black Proof Silver Honey Bee Coins features honey bees working within a hive. Selective 24-karat gold highlights portions of both the hive and the bees. Their highly organized colonies and detailed communication methods have long been studied as examples of cooperative behavior.

History

Human fascination with bees stretches far back into ancient times. Some of the earliest evidence of organized beekeeping appears in North Africa around 9,000 years ago, and early artwork shows people collecting honey from natural colonies. Today, honey bees remain essential to agriculture, helping pollinate many of the crops people rely on every day. Their role supports a major part of global food production.
