{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}One of the most recognizable currencies in mainland Europe during the late 19th and early 20th centuries was the German Mark. From 1871 to 1915, the mark appeared on paper notes, silver coins, and gold coins. Today, 20 Mark Gold Coins from the German Empire are available for purchase at BGASC.
Highlights:
These 20 Mark German Gold Coins are available in protective plastic. Please note that we do not guarantee a specific year of issue for the coin you receive. All items are chosen at random, and you could receive coins with the same year of issue if you order more than one. These are circulated specimens that may show signs of wear and tear.
Issued by the Reichsbank, the German Mark circulated as paper money from 1873 to 1914, as silver coins in smaller denominations through 1919, and as gold coins through late 1915. These 20 Mark Gold Coins are historic reminders of the German Empire, which lasted on the European continent until the end of World War I.
Obverse
The obverse of these 20 Mark Gold Coins features a right-facing portrait of the reigning German Emperor, who also held the title King of Prussia after the unification under Wilhelm I. Coins dated 18711888 show Wilhelm I, a limited group from 1888 depicts Frederick III, and issues from late 1888 to 1915 carry the portrait of Wilhelm II.
Reverse
On the reverse of the 20 Mark coins, youll find the crowned arms of the German Empire. The eagle is shown with wings spread, and inscriptions identify the issuing nation and the 20 Mark denomination.
History
A notable chapter in the coins history is the Year of Three Emperors in 1888. Wilhelm I passed away at age 90 and was succeeded by his son, Frederick III, whose reign lasted just 99 days due to illness. Wilhelm II then took the throne, guiding the empire through the years leading up to World War I.
