{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The year 2021 marked a meaningful milestone for collectors with the return of two classic silver dollar designs from the United States Mint. Created to commemorate both the centennial of the final Morgan Dollar and the debut of the Peace Dollar, these designs were reintroduced as modern collectibles. Beginning in 2023, the Mint continued releasing Proof versions annually. Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins are now available for purchase online from BGASC.
Highlights:
These Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins are packaged in an official US Mint presentation box and include a Certificate of Authenticity. This listing includes coins from various years starting in 2023. Specific dates are not guaranteed, and all coins are selected at random after payment confirmation.
Obverse
The obverse of the Proof Peace Silver Dollar features a left-facing portrait of Liberty designed by Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a crown with radiant spikes, symbolizing hope and renewal. The design was inspired by de Franciscis wife, Teresa, resulting in a softer and more contemporary depiction compared to earlier US silver dollar designs.
Reverse
The reverse presents a peaceful American bald eagle perched on a rock while holding an olive branch. This image was chosen to represent the nations desire for peace following World War I. The eagles relaxed stance contrasts with the more dramatic designs used on earlier silver dollars, emphasizing calm rather than power.
History
The original Peace Dollar series returned briefly in 1934 and 1935 as part of government programs aimed at using newly acquired silver during the Great Depression. Coins from these years were produced at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco mints. The series ended after 1935 with little attention. A later attempt to revive the design in 1964 was halted, and all coins were melted before release.
