{{/presale}} {{#promotion_on}}The US Mint reintroduced two of its most respected silver dollar designs in 2021, creating renewed interest among collectors. This special release honored the 100th anniversary of the last Morgan Dollar, along with the original introduction of the Peace Dollar. Starting in 2023, these silver dollars have continued as annual proof releases intended for collectors. BGASC currently offers Proof Peace Silver Dollar Coins in certified condition.
Highlights:
Each Proof Peace Silver Dollar offered here has received a perfect PF/PR70 grade. Coins at this level display strong original luster and no visible imperfections. These certified coins may feature different years of issue beginning in 2023, along with a range of mint marks or label styles. All items are selected at random after payment is received, and specific designations cannot be requested.
Obverse
The obverse design of the Peace Dollar shows Lady Liberty facing left, a design created by sculptor Anthony de Francisci. Liberty wears a radiant crown with outward rays that represent hope and progress. The portrait was modeled after de Franciscis wife, Teresa, resulting in a fresh and modern interpretation of Liberty.
Reverse
On the reverse, the Peace Dollar features a bald eagle at rest while holding an olive branch. This peaceful pose was chosen to reflect the nations desire for calm and stability following World War I. The design intentionally moved away from the stronger, more aggressive eagle imagery seen on earlier silver dollars.
History
Production numbers for the original Peace Dollar series declined after its early years. The 1924 and 1925 issues were struck in moderate quantities, but mintages fell noticeably from 1926 through 1928. Some branch mint issues from these later years are now considered scarce. The 1928 Philadelphia Peace Dollar had one of the lowest mintages of the series, and no Peace Dollars were produced at the Denver or San Francisco mints in 1927.
