A Japanese submarine torpedoed the British India Steam Navigation Company vessel while it was making its journey from Bombay to Mombasa and Durban. Tragically, 280 lives were lost, and the ship was carrying 2,364 silver bullion bars. These bars were recovered from the ocean floor in 2017, offering you a rare opportunity to own a piece of history that was raised from a depth of about 2,800 meters. Right now, the S.S. The S.S. Tilawa Shipwreck Silver Faceplate is an incredibly rare collectible that offers a direct link to this historic maritime tragedy. Weighing approximately 100 Troy ounces, these faceplates were cut from larger 1,000 Troy ounce silver bars that were part of the sunken cargo of the S.S. Tilawa. They arrive securely packed in protective boxes for delivery.

Each of these faceplates connects you to that history, as they were carefully shaved from the original silver bars that had been on the ocean floor for decades. The History
When the S.S. Tilawa sank in 1942, it was transporting a cargo of silver bullion bars, intended for refining into coinage in South Africa. After the ship went down, the silver cargo remained at the bottom of the Indian Ocean for over 70 years, at a depth of roughly 2,800 meters, until it was recovered in 2017 by Argentum Exploration Ltd.

In order to receive free shipping on purchases of $199 or more, you must live within the 50 US states. For orders less than $199, a $9.95 shipping fee applies.
